This field guide is built to chase that feeling on purpose: four badges, each tied to something worth noticing at Center Hill Lake, checked off one at a time over the course of a stay.

Water Explorer
Center Hill Lake is the whole point of the trip. This badge lives on the dock, off the boat, and at the end of a fishing line.
- Jump or swim off a dock or swim beach
- Ride in a boat, kayak, or canoe

- Find a boat with a name you love
Puckett's Point, a five-minute walk from the cabin, is the calmest water on the lake for a first-timer's paddle — no wake, no crowd, just a quiet cove to practice in before the lake wakes up.
Wildlife Ranger
The forests and coves around Center Hill Lake are quietly full of animals. This badge rewards paying attention.
- Spot a bald eagle or osprey
- Find an Eastern box turtle
- Watch a great blue heron fish
- See a deer at dusk
- Catch a firefly after dark, then let it go
Keep a pair of binoculars on the deck. Early morning on the Caney Fork arm is prime eagle-watching hour, and the herons tend to work the shallow coves right at first light.
Trail & Falls Scout
From parking-lot waterfalls to real trail loops, the woods around The Little Lake House reward kids who look down as much as up.
- Visit a waterfall — Twin Falls, Great Falls, Lost Creek, or Burgess Falls
- Find a pinecone bigger than your hand
- Cross a wooden bridge or boardwalk
- Spot a butterfly at the Burgess Falls garden
- Walk a full trail loop, start to finish
Lost Creek Falls is the one kids talk about for years — a 40-foot waterfall that vanishes into a limestone cave, a 0.2-mile walk from the car. Best saved for the badge's grand finale.
Night Sky & Deck Badge
The best part of a lake day often happens after the sun goes down. This badge is earned right from the deck.

- Watch the water turn copper at sunset
Firefly season peaks in June and July right along the treeline behind the cabin. No flashlights needed — just bare feet on the deck and patience.
